International Day of People with Disability supports the Red Dust Heelers to play at INVICTUS Games!

Cockburn Invictus Games

The Commonwealth Department of Social Services’s International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) program has funded the Red Dust Heelers to play an Exhibition Game of wheelchair basketball at the INVICTUS Games at 5pm on Friday October 26!!! This is the first of its kind for the Games and is an opportunity to showcase the power of adaptive sport. We will have nine Indigenous players on the court, some who have been with us a while, and some who have only recently connected. They come from Karratha, Halls Creek, Rockhampton, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, ACT. The team will be led by Paralympians and veteran National League players who have been leading the Heelers into communities around Australia since 2012. The Heelers will take their message to another four communities after the Games as part of the funding from IDPwD. This opportunity is also being supported by the Australian Paralympic Committee as we continue to work together to increase participation of people with disability in adaptive sports and healthy lifestyles.
