The Syd Jackson Scholarship
In what the Outback Academy hopes will be the first of many to come in all areas of industry/ business, the Syd Jackson Scholarship has been established with the Carlton Football Club.
The Syd Jackson Scholarship was established to provide young Australians with an opportunity to develop their skills and careers in football with Syd’s former Club Carlton as the lead employment and training host. The scholarship is a long-held dream of Syd’s as it brings together his two homes, the Carlton Football Club with his former West Australia home and clubs, including Roelands Mission, now Roelands Village in Bunbury where Syd was raised, and his former WA Clubs – East Perth and South Bunbury.
The scholarship will provide a traineeship for a young person in the Sports Administration area. The young person will also assist each year’s running of the successful GWABA football carnival which attracts hundreds of Indigenous players and families every year to Bunbury in south-west Western Australia.
The Carnival acknowledges the legendary skills of Syd and the Syd Jackson Cup is the ultimate award to the winning side. See https://www.facebook.com/Gwaba-Indigenous-Football-Carnival Bunbury
